Master of Multi-tasking no more....

"BE Present!!" It was clear, concise and clearly not me saying it. What?? What does that really mean??

I decided to reflect on this meditation message floating to me.

Looking back over my life, I realized that I have worked hard at being a Master of Multitasking! Oh, yes!  I watched my mother manage a large home, take care of 13 children, run us all to a variety of sporting events, teach Sunday School, help us with homework and much more with one baby on the hip and an arm stirring the pot of stew!

As a young wife and mother myself, I used to ask my husband, "Why can't you pick up the dishrag and wash dishes when you are on the phone?" He looked at me oddly, like 'who would think of that?'  Years later, I learned how the corpus collosum in men is smaller than in women. This is the connector between the right  and left hemispheres of the brain. Thus, it affects the ability to multi-task.

Men are biologically hard-wired to be "hunters," whereas women are the "gatherers of the nuts, seeds, berries and legumes."  I believe this is one reason men tend to be more "single focused." I ask you women if you have ever tried to interrupt a man when he was working on a project? Did he hear you? Have you ever had the feeling that you do not matter because he does not drop everything in the middle of his workload and call you? Yes, perhaps some men do this. However, I am merely saying that they do not necessarily think of other people or events when they are focused on a single project. Less multi-tasking!

For women, as the 'gatherers' and diffuse focus, we tend to multi-task more easily and many times this is needed and beneficial. Yet, there are times when this habit is not conducive to our life. How easily can we turn off the mind habit of 'doing' and being so busy that we cannot focus purely on whatever is in front of us?

If I do not begin to slow down and focus, I discover that things tend to go awry and mishaps happen. Ever cut yourself while chopping vegetables? Or bump your shin and stumble while rushing? Do you have any idea where your mind was in those moments?

Perhaps these are messages from your inner being to "slow down! Maybe we can ask ourselves, "Am I racing toward something? What's my finish line?"

The truth is, the finish line here on planet earth is transitioning into our spirit bodies. Yes, death we call it. I know there are many of us who feel as if it happens way before 'it should.'  And when that happens, we have the opportunity to look at life from a different perspective. Do I have any regrets over being too busy?  Do I want to shift out of the old habits of multitasking and being too busy to fully savor what is in front of me in this moment?

This is a constant practice for me. I know some people still think I am too busy and in the "doing" stage. And to others, they chuckle when I am 'ooh-ing and ahh-ing and savoring each bite of the delicious food in front of me, or dancing to the music as it comes on the radio, kissing people when I see them, stopping to play with a frisbee when my fun loving Downs syndrome neighbor stops by.

The old Patty would often have said, "later... wait....let me finish this first..." I regretted not playing golf with my husband. I told him I would do it when we retired and had all the time in the world to play. Now I look at the peaceful green and say, "I missed that perfect opportunity to be with someone I love having fun." I do not want any more regrets. I forgive myself, however, I am choosing a new way of being. Oh, but I am human and have old habits, so if I am slipping into the 'over-do'  and not being present and in joy while 'doing' then you have my permission to shake me!!

You are energy. Everything is energy. If your energy is calm, peaceful, loving and appreciative of whatever is in the moment, you ARE BEING PRESENT. You are making a big difference in your life and for everyone around you!  Being present was a new sensation for me at first and what a gift I discovered! A doorway has opened to stepping into Divine flow, synchronicity and miracles.

Our minds cannot take us there. Only your truth - your soul energy, your surrender and relaxing into the moment in front of you with a conscious breath.

Let's practice now, by saying: "In this moment, I am okay. I am safe. I am filled with gratitude. Thank you God." .... and watch what flows back to you!

May Your Present Moments be Filled with Inspiration and Love!
